Artist bio
Israeli artist Zadok Ben-David provides a detailed instruction manual for the "operation" of his book project and you are sure to need it. The piece is really an oversized flip book that yields a different series of images depending on where your fingers happen to begin flipping and in which direction the pages start to flow.
Sometime black and white images, speed past, other times bold pastels. And if you're really unlucky, the pages are blank. Each image is a detailed rendering of early scientific apparatus. The book is a limited edition of 1,000, signed by the artist, and thankfully there are no lengthy essays to hamper your enjoyment of this magical object. It follows the touring installation "Evolution and Theory" and contains a secret sculpture within its pages much like the bonus "surprise in the pack" of cereal boxes and cracker jacks. I could tell you what it is, but that would ruin the surprise.
